Gorilla Mode Post Workout
Gorilla Mode Post-Workout is a mix of fast digesting carbs with very quick gastric emptying times, sodium, creatine and leucine.
Carbs: The Highly Branched Cyclic Dextrin (HBCD) is a very expensive carb source that has gained notoriety in the past decade not only for how well it works, but also for how well-tolerated it is.
In the past, carb powders designed to refill glycogen stores as quickly as possible essentially all fell short of their intended goal and caused significant amounts of bloating and gastrointestinal upset.
The slower the gastric emptying time and the more GI distress a carb source causes, the longer it will take for glycogen replenishment.
HBCD is processed very quickly with no GI distress, and gets to the muscle to start the recovery process.
Research suggests that speed and overall quantity of uptake can be maximized using dextrose and fructose, and that combination has been used by many athletes with great success.
A 2:1 ratio of dextrose:fructose is common for this purpose.
However, as we already have the low osmolality/high molecular weight carb source via the HBCD, we can get away with using a much lower amount of dextrose in this product, with far less potential for GI distress.
1 cup of pulp-free orange juice can be added to this shake to add a proportional amount of fructose to support maximized glycogen replenishment.
Sodium: Sodium is one of the most critical and overlooked components of a diet designed to optimize exercise performance.
The amount of pink Himalayan sea salt per serving in this product yields 1000 mg of sodium, which will be more than enough to support optimal re-hydration after almost any activity.
Disclaimer: We've masked the salty taste as much as possible, and it tastes great considering the high sodium content, but there is a salty taste that comes with this product.
Creatine: Creatine is the best studied and most effective performance enhancing supplement.
Supplementing with creatine has shown time and time again to significantly improve strength, power output and muscle size.
Creatine’s effect on strength is facilitated by increasing the body’s stores of phosphocreatine, which is then used during high intensity exercise to produce ATP.
By keeping our body saturated with this key compound on a daily basis, we can leverage its performance enhancing and recovery benefits around the clock.
Leucine: Several studies have been published suggesting that the Isoleucine, Valine and the other EAA’s may inhibit Leucine uptake when ingested together, which is why we only included Leucine in this post-workout formula.
The goal post-workout is to replenish glycogen and sodium, spike mTOR/muscle protein synthesis as efficiently as possible, and then eat your meal shortly after.
