Acid9 Breakdown
Acid9 is an essential amino acids (EAA) blend of all 9 EAAs.
Basically, your body cannot produce the 9 EAAs and you need to consume these through your diet. The nine EAAs include: Leucine, Isoleucine, Valine, Threonine, Lysine, Phenylalanine, Methionine, Histidine, and Tryptophan. The first three listed are branched chain amino acids (BCAAs).
BCAAs are vital to signaling muscle protein synthesis as seen in many studies. Leucine activates a certain pathway in the body that stimulates muscle protein synthesis (MPS), which is the process of making muscle. A study showed that people who consumed 5.6 grams of BCAAs after their workout had a 22% greater increase in MPS compared to placebo.
While BCAAs can increase muscle protein synthesis, they can’t do so maximally without the other EAAs, such as those found in whey protein or complete EAA supplements like this one! Some studies showed sources with the full EAA profile increased MPS by 50% vs BCAAs alone.
We do have a 7-gram prop blend that makes it difficult to make out the exact amount of each ingredient. You typically want to see 6 grams of BCAAs at a 2:1:1 ratio (Leucine:Valine:Isoleucine) and at least a gram of the other 6 EAAs. There are very few studies that used an exact ratio of the entire EAA profile, so it’s not as easy to identify an effective ratio/doseage of all 9 EAAs like it is for BCAAs.
